What roles do you play in the life you live?
I have been logging different examples to explain and understand the different roles we play in this life. I am currently a woman, sister, daughter, auntie (as well as other family roles), friend, partner, coworker, and the list builds. We need to focus on some roles more than others.
I’d like to highlight my role as an employee. With a change in careers, from a large restaurant housed in an airport to a more professional setting and a smaller group of individuals. You can learn a lot with just the basic fundamentals of restaurant work. I learned how to multi-task early due to the different needs and working gears involved in the hospitality industry. In restaurants, there were some of the most diverse individuals I have ever worked with.
Now I’m learning more about law and the practices and services offered through the firm I work at it. It is overwhelming, challenging and exciting, things of which I appreciate from a job. What I haven’t gotten used to is the level of silliness that is no longer appropriate or fancied. It’s as if the restaurant group has more fun and can be more of a family-like work setting while getting so much done and making a decent living. Anyway, times have changed for the better. I’m excited to learn and grow more.
Learning your role comes with ignorance, patience and hopefully education. You can’t come into a role knowing everything – It’s likely harder to work with you. No matter where you are in life there is always time to learn something new. Maybe it’s not completely new to you or it’s done differently. Either way, enjoy and soak up the ride.
Have you started a new role lately? Feel free to share, I’d love to hear your experience. Until next time! 🙂
